The reinforced down-country tire. With modern 29ers combining aggressive geometries with equally aggressive pedaling platforms, there's no reason a climbing bike can't also be a fun machine. The Syerra proves this with a fast-rolling, high-grip central tread, with spaced, molded, and siped knobs for biting on climbs, rocks, and roots, or under braking and cornering loads.

The spacious knob design also allows for mud and dirt shedding, and the Syerra's overall width helps it float over roots and rock gardens that a decade ago we wouldn't have dreamed of riding on 29ers. Despite offering increased damping and traction, its relatively light construction allows the tire to accelerate quickly, overcoming obstacles and gaining another lap.
