Why Precision Fit?

Trek Precision Fit Philosophy

Don’t leave your fit to a formula. At Trek, we believe the best fit is achieved through a combination of analysis and personal care. Our technicians are trained to emphasize your goals and preferences, ensuring you leave with a fit that generates exactly the benefits you desire.

Anatomical analysis

This part of the equation is about determining what unique properties of your psyche and range of motion are impacting handling quality. Technicians focus on putting you in the position where you can generate the most power on the pedals and maintain that power for as long as possible.

Individualized approach

An individualized approach means entering into a dialogue about your goals, what's holding you back, and how you'd like to see your riding quality improve. Precision Fit is about getting the right setup for you and only you, and that starts with the right questions.

Critical thinking

Precision Fit is evidence-based, but data is analyzed on a case-by-case basis with the guidance of the customer's approach. We have amazing technology to compile data on all the elements that affect comfort and performance, but at the end of the day this data is only as good as the technician who has the critical thinking skills to apply it to your particular situation.

The Precision Fit process

Precision Fit combines a personal understanding of your relationship with cycling and your bicycle with advanced sports science technologies and quantitative analysis. Precision Fit considers both preference and performance, making it applicable for anyone who wants to enjoy their bike more.

Interview

During the interview, the Precision Fit technician will get a sense of who you are as a rider and who you want to be. The interview considers physical exercise, the type of riding you primarily want to do, and any current or previous injuries you may have. We will ask you about your experience of discomfort on the bike. Our technicians are trained to listen first, and this is where the process is tailored to you.

Evaluation without the bike

The off-bike assessment is a thorough series of measurements and tests that determine proper sizing while also providing a baseline measure of strength and flexibility. The technician will assess critical body alignment and sizing, and make an evaluation of your posture. You will perform basic strength exercises and flexibility tests to see what type of setup your body can truly handle. This precise sense of where you are physically will guide the technician as you move onto the bike.

Bicycle Assessment

With a deep understanding of your history, goals, and physiology, it's now time to move to the bike. The assessment works from the ground up, evaluating proper saddle positioning for optimal knee bend. The technician will set up your cleats, ensuring you are centered over the pedal and getting maximum power from every pedal stroke. They will assess your posture and adjust handlebar length and position to provide you with a neutral spine, the most comfortable and efficient position to sit on the bike.

Backed by data

Precision Fit technicians have at their disposal incredible tools designed to evaluate top athletic competitors.

Exercise bike

The technology analysis begins with the fit bike, a fully customized tool that allows a wide range of adjustments at the front and rear, and is linked to software to analyze everything from power generation to rider positioning. Everything that can be adjusted on the bicycle is adjusted with millimeter precision on the fit bike, and many adjustments can be made while the cyclist is pedaling, which allows them to immediately feel the difference that small changes can make. Different riding conditions can be simulated.

Seat pressure analysis

Saddle selection and adjustment are of paramount importance for comfort and performance. Prior to Precision Fit, these adjustments had to be made based on the rider's subjective explanation of how they felt on the saddle. Using a pressure-activated board linked to analysis software, we can identify where your bones rest, your exact location on the saddle, and problematic pressure points. This allows the technician to make millimeter-precise adjustments and to constantly evaluate their efficiency in reducing pressure points and improving positioning on the bike.

Dynamic motion capture analysis

The human eye can process approximately 17 frames per second, and cannot detect many of the small movements made on a bike. Precision Fit uses a 60 frame per second motion capture camera to identify the most subtle details of your pedaling and positioning. Together with analysis software, the images this camera provides are compared against an ideal set of angular norms and ranges to identify inconsistencies. By using this high-speed video, technicians can perform an analysis of your biomechanics and movement that would simply not be possible to do in such detail with the naked eye.

Schedule your Precision Fit session

Trek's Precision Fit system costs $2,500. It takes about 3 hours. You need to schedule your appointment with a 20% down payment (can be by bank transfer).
