What to pack in your bike bag

When you go out for a ride, it's always best to be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. Your tool bag is your ally for solving problems on the road. But what should it contain? We'll tell you here.

Essential tools:

For short rides, with an organized group or a sweep vehicle, a spare tube, air pump, multitool, and tire levers are sufficient.

For long rides, carry a second spare tube, a multitool with a chain breaker, a quick link, glueless patches, and a thin reinforcement, like a folded plastic bill, in case of a tire cut.

Pump or CO2:

An air pump is essential, although CO2 cartridges are also useful (but be careful with them!).

Portable mini compressors are another option; make sure they are always charged.

Where to store your tools:

It's best to carry the bag under the seat so it doesn't interfere with handling and is aerodynamic. Some handlebar bags allow easy access to food, but that's a personal choice.

Avoid jersey pockets, as they can cause injuries in case of a fall.

Other essentials:

A few low-denomination bills (200 pesos) are key for emergencies or buying food.

Don't forget your phone to call for help if needed.

Extra tips:

  • Learn how to use the tools you carry or seek help from an experienced cyclist. At NRC Bikes, we teach you how to change a tire, repair a chain, or adjust your gears.
  • Prepare two bags: a small one for short rides and a larger one for long routes.
  • Adding latex gloves can be useful to keep your hands clean when repairing the chain.

Follow these tips and get ready to ride safely and with peace of mind!
