Enduro Bearings pioneered MAX-type bearings for bicycles over 20 years ago to address the challenges associated with mountain bike pivots. MAX-type bearings offer 35-40% more load capacity than standard radial bearings, thanks to a special design that inserts the maximum number of balls into the bearing through a custom-ground slot in the races. The extra balls, combined with the deep race grooves of these bearings, provide increased lateral support against the torsional and multi-directional forces associated with mountain bike pivots. This bearing features deep groove races, Grade 10 balls, and full-contact dual-lip labyrinth seals (LLU) for maximum protection against the elements, while retaining 90% of Almagard high-pressure grease inside.
Not all stainless steels are created equal.
Enduro exclusively uses 440C stainless steel balls and rings to ensure long life and superior corrosion resistance in applications and environments that may not be ideal. 440C exhibits the highest mechanical strength, hardness, and wear resistance of all standard high-carbon 440 series stainless alloys. As expected, it is also the most expensive of the 440 series alloys and requires multiple heat and cryogenic treatment cycles to achieve its superior mechanical properties. Although stainless steel has 20% less load capacity and is slightly softer than our standard 52100 chrome steel, used in most of our bearings, stainless steel is an excellent alternative for use in wet conditions, if you wash your bike often, or in situations where sweat can be an issue.
